Why do we think that we need to travel to a far away land to serve others best?

I admit for the first twenty-six years of my life, I had no clue what missionary work or service projects were all about. Did I do a random community service effort or help with a fundraiser here and there as I grew up? Certainly. However, in the last five years or so, my heart has been drawn to serving others in need, no matter where the country was located, what was being asked of me in regards to service, or what the conditions were like in the land I was entering…

We prepare to be ready for so many events each day, don’t we? If we didn’t face unknowns in life then things would be easier.

We get ready for work, for school, for sports games, practices, for parties, for meals, for bed and everything in between. People like to be prepared to do well with the challenges each day presents.  However, the problem, is that typically we only do this consistently when we are dealing with events we’re expecting. What about the events that find you – the ones that you didn’t see coming that register in the depths of you heart?
